This surgeon’s life is quite a journey, a world of beautiful, controlled chaos. One minute, you’re on a complete adrenaline rush with those heart-stopping moments in the OT where every single second counts. The very next minute, you’re having a quiet cup of chai with your colleagues after a long shift. It’s a special kind of craze, this life, and I wouldn’t change it for anything.
But once the scrubs are off and the hospital chaos finally settles down, that’s when the real thoughts start. I’m 33 now and settled here in the UK. And honestly, this isn’t something to show off about. A very big part of me really, really misses India. I was born in Chandigarh, and some days the homesickness is just too strong, you know? It’s the small things… the buzz of the local market, the taste of actual ghar ka khana (home-cooked food), the warmth of the winter sun.
I remember my journey in PLAB preparation; it was so exhausting, filled with endless nights of studying, mountains of notes, and the constant pressure to perform. There were moments I doubted if I’d ever make it, but looking back, every struggle was worth it to be where I am today.
You can make a life for yourself anywhere, but that feeling of ‘home’ that you leave behind… that’s a totally different feeling. So yeah, this is me, living the chaotic life of a surgeon in the UK, but at heart, I’m forever that kid from Chandigarh. And yeah, if you are preparing for PLAB and need any help, my DMs are always open
