Day 1 of internship. Fresh white coat. Stethoscope ready. Ego intact.
I walked into the ward like a future surgeon… only to be handed a BP machine and told:
“Intern, start checking vitals. 25 patients. Go.”
Me: “Yes, doctor.”
(Internally panicking because I forgot how to even hold a sphygmomanometer properly )
By patient 8, my stethoscope fell inside the bedsheet.
By patient 15, my gloves tore.
By patient 22, I accidentally told someone their BP was “normal-high-low-ish.”
The ward nurse patted my back and said:
“Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it. We all start as blood pressure specialists.”
And that’s how I earned the prestigious title:
BP Monitor Officer
Still waiting for my real stethoscope moment
